The Washington International Diplomatic Academy is an independent educational institution dedicated to strengthening global diplomacy by providing the highest-quality training, executive education and professional development to diplomats from around the world, and equipping them with the skills necessary to represent their countries successfully while promoting global stability and prosperity.
Diplomacy is, above all, about influence. In order to be effective, diplomats must have the knowledge and skills to get specific things done in a multicultural environment and under challenging circumstances, working not only with governments, but with all parts of foreign societies.
Training in the practice of diplomacy is in high demand worldwide. Although many governments have their own training facilities — generally as part of Ministries of Foreign Affairs — their capacity is often limited, lacking in more substantive and sophisticated programs. They focus almost entirely on traditional diplomacy, not paying enough attention to 21-century skills and innovative approaches to teaching. Usually, only employees of the respective government are allowed to take classes at such facilities, depriving them of the chance to benefit from their foreign colleagues’ knowledge and experience. As the increasingly interconnected world makes any country’s diplomacy more global than ever before, cross-national training can produce significant positive results.
The Washington International Diplomatic Academy provides such training, executive education and professional development to diplomats from around the world at all levels, both in regular courses and through customized programs. Its goal is to help diplomats acquire and hone much-needed skills with immediate, real-life application.
